PHYS 4181. Solid State at Semiconductor Physics Laboratory. Solid State Physics. (3) Prerequisite: PHYS 4241 or MEGR 3131 or permission of instructor department. Laboratory in solid state physics and semiconductor device physics, including electrical and photoconductivity; fluorescence, and photoluminescence and Raman Scattering; semiconductor device characteristics; superconductivity; and the Hall Effect. Six laboratory hours each week. (On demand) An introduction to solid-state physics. Topics include crystal structures, reciprocal lattices, phonons, free electron Fermi gases, band structures, and electrical, magnetic, and optical properties of metals, semiconductors, and insulators. Three lecture hours each week. (Spring), (Even years)
