Summary

The Department of Music proposes to add three credits of electives to the B.A. in Music degree. This will bring the total credit-hour requirement to 120 credits for students who have already met the Foreign Language proficiency and to 128 credits for those who need to meet the proficiency through coursework at UNC Charlotte.

The curriculum will therefore consist of:

  • 34 hours of General Education, not including Foreign Language proficiency;
  • 47 hours in the Core Music Curriculum, including private lessons, ensembles, music theory, ear training, piano and music history;
  • 18 hours of a designated minor or second major; and
  • 21 hours of electives and additional music classes, including:
  • 6 hours of required music classes (one semester of lessons and ensembles beyond those required in the Core Music Curriculum, as well as the Senior Project);
  • 15 hours of electives. Students may count no more than 7 hours of music electives (all at the 2000-level or above) towards this requirement. The remaining elective hours must be in disciplines outside of music; this may include additional courses in the minor or second major.
