The M.A. program in Counseling is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) in school counseling, community counseling, and addiction counseling. These specializations qualify graduates to become Licensed Professional Counselors in North Carolina and for certification eligibility by the National Board of Certified Counselors. The school counseling specialization qualifies graduates for advanced level K-12 school counseling licensure in North Carolina. The addiction counseling specialization provides students with the coursework and a portion of the clinical experiences for licensure as Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialists by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board.
(Please note: once approval is given by UNC Charlotte for this specialization, application will be made to the CACREP Board for this specialization to be added to our accreditation).
