CHFD 3414. Language, Literacy, and Mathematical Thinking of Young Children: Birth – Kindergarten. (3) Prerequisites: Admittance to Teacher Education in Child and Family Development, GPA of at least 2.5 overall and 2.75 in the major, CHFD 3112. This course examines the development of language, literacy, and mathematical thinking in young children who are culturally-, linguistically- and ability-diverse. Research, current educational practice, and instructional materials and strategies will be analyzed. Emphasis is on the design and assessment of integrated listening, speaking, reading, writing, and mathematical activities. A field-based clinical experience of approximately 15-20 hours is included.
